The Codger and the Matron

I Love You, Dammit

The Codger and the Matron

Two old folks, an old codger  and a matron, fall into a grumpy state of disconnected union after fifty years together.

Then, one day:

I LOVE YOU DAMMIT

I love you, dammit!
Why can’t you take my word?
My face can’t say it,
But I love you,
In spite of all your faults.
I take you for good or gooder,
I’ll even … waltz with you,
’Cause, dammit, after all,
I do love you.

I love you, dammit!
Can’t you see I care?
And yes, I believe you, dammit,
In spite of all your grumps.
I take you with all your lumps,
Your bad and your badder.
Even your…hilarious face,
’Cause, dammit, after all,
I do love you.

I love you, dammit, darling,
I’ll abide with you.
You know me all too well, darling,
And I’ll twitter like a starling
If you’ll abide with me.
I love, dammit, darling,
I love you anyway.
Come away my darling
Let’s make hay while still we may.
And yes, I will abide with you, my darlin’,
And know that always I’ve been true.

I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Old_Codger_Thumbnail_--_2016-01-22_0825   Well, who else would have me?
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Matron_Thumbnail_--2016-01-22_0826   Well, who would I seduce now?
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Old_Codger_Thumbnail_--_2016-01-22_0825   You’ve always been my friend, darlin’.
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Matron_Thumbnail_--2016-01-22_0826   And I love you for your face.
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Old_Codger_Thumbnail_--_2016-01-22_0825   Too damn late to divorce anyway.

The codger and the matron look at each other,  reach out, hold hands, and waltz away.
They continue to argue as they fade away out of the scene.

I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Matron_Thumbnail_--2016-01-22_0826 ’Cause I love you still, my darling, dammit.
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Old_Codger_Thumbnail_--_2016-01-22_0825 Dammit it all, I still love you.
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Matron_Thumbnail_--2016-01-22_0826 Are you sure about that?
I_Love_You_Dammit_--_Old_Codger_Thumbnail_--_2016-01-22_0825 Sure I’m sure. Dammit.
