To Make the World Smile

TO MAKE THE WORLD SMILE

for my queen

Oh! To make the world smile!

‘Twould be such a glorious feat,

For this is just what the world needs

Midst the quarreling groundlings of today.

Seems that no matter what you say

These days, there’s a snarler to oppose.

Opposition seems to be the way

To make your mark, or just a shadow be.

It is the innocence of the child

That is purer than pure ego that seems

To rule today. The generosity of the

Child, the aroma of the rose.

For the rose is love and never war,

For solace, not for prickles on the stem.

The child, the rose, both mature, for

Making peace, to cancel “us versus them.”

Indeed, ‘tis known that the child

Is here to teach, not to tear down,

Not to be moulded anti good, pro con,

For the child simply knows how to smile.

She, as a child, told us all in time of war,

It is up to us, the children of today,

To make the world smile. Yes, the child

In us knows how to make the world smile.

—after all, Queen Elizabeth II gave

to us a working template.

A more productive way. A better future.

“…so it is up to us, the children of today, to make the world smile…”
Queen Elizabeth II, as a 14-year-old child, on the radio, Second World War
As seen on television tribute on the death of Queen Elizabeth II

I GUESS THIS IS HOW I HEARD IT. Although, I got the quote from somewhere, and I wrote it down. Huh!

But,  It is a great quote. Thus the birth of my poem.

Here is the actual quote, a great motto to live by, child or adult, war time or otherwise:

“And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place.”

Oh, the heart-breaking, life-affirming power of the smile!

PS:

Don’t forget your Alzheimer’s family, especially not this World Alzheimer’s Month.
Your friendly family member burdened with the heaviness of care giving
Is tired. Lend her/him a hand. They aren’t the ones disappearing.
God bless the care givers.

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.
Take a load off her.

Offer him your helping hand.

“… it is up to us, the children of today, to make the world smile…”

THE REAL QUOTE IS:
And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place.

And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place. Her Majesty The Queen.
