YOUR SHOES

(and) when you are down and out

And cannot help yourself,

I will walk in your shoes

When people challenge your place

And when the world is on your case

I will walk in your shoes

And when your heart breaks

From the strain of it all,

And your gut shrinks into a ball,

And you can’t do anything

In spite of it, after all,

I will walk in your shoes.

If the world stomps on your toes,

Makes fun of your legitimate woes,

If the crude kids make fun of you

And tell you where to go to,

I will walk in your shoes

If you lose your job and can’t find work

And you know you never did shirk,

And nobody wants to give you a hand,

And it’s on your downers that you land,

I will walk in your shoes

And when you are lonely and crave

Some company lest you break and rave,

I will walk in your shoes.

Yes, I will walk in your shoes, my friend,

Right now, and on to the end

If needs must be, so be still, dear heart,

I will walk with you     till it is time for us to part

And you will stay the path because you are strong

Don’t let anybody tell you that you are wrong,

I know that you can do this, you are fortitude,

All it takes is a change in attitude

And know that I have walked in your shoes

And you, my friend, have paid all your dues.

–And remember this, I will walk in your shoes.

What does the idiom put oneself into another’s shoes meaning?

(figuratively) To try to look at a situation from a different point of view; as if one were the other person; to empathise. synonym ▲ Synonym: put oneself in someone’s place. If you could just put yourself in his shoes for a moment, perhaps you would understand why it is not as easy as you seem to think.
