Chasing a Butterfly
is my paean to Ann, my life partner for fifty years, by way of thanks for her love, her leader- ship, her fantastic mother- hood, her constant friendship and support.
It is my feeling that nobody deserved less to have been stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. (The only reason I accept the capital A in Alz- heimer’s is to honour
Dr. Alzheimer, who identified this mind-eating curse and thus led the way, to research, and for the army of people who fight it.)
Ann’s devastation reduced me to despair, and the only way I found to cope was to write poetry. I have gathered about seven dozen of these poems, which express everything from despair to joy and even include some humour, and put them into this book. This experience has chosen me, and transformed me. It has given me a mission. That mission is to become an advocate in the fight to defeat Alzheimer’s.
In doing that, I dedicate a portion of all sales of “Chasing a Butterfly” to the Alzheimer’s Society to aid that cause.
