The Sun, the Moon, the Stars

The Sun, the Moon, the Stars

H. W. Bryce

The sun, the moon, the stars align themselves in heaven;

Booze and drugs and bad cigars are indulged upon the earth.

In heaven, choirs of angels sing; on earth, a caco-phony roars.

In heaven peaceful harmony rules; down below the sounds of wars.

Twixt heaven and earth, the twain shall never meet

As long as earthlings each other try so hard to beat.

The sun, the moon, the stars, permanent in their firmament,

Earth crumbles beneath the feet of man, was man really meant?

The sun, it shines on us each and every day,

The moon, it reflects the unsiversal state,

The stars, they twinkle with delight – they are us,

Together, yet alone, co-existing with Father Sun

And Mother Moon – and so shall we children here on earth,

As long as we give peace a chance for our better selves to birth.

Have You Ever Seen an Owl Laugh?

Have you ever seen an owl laugh?

He thinks that we people are so funny…

We are so earthly bound and jealous of his flight…

And even funnier yet, our clumsy attempts to fly,

and how so often we fool ourselves and take our eyes

off our target, and how we so often just despair.

He spotted prey, he swooped, he dove, he missed.

He wheeled around and perched again, his body shook

As he laughed out loud at himself; and then he tried

Again; he could take a joke that was on himself.

Can you? Be like the owl, be of good cheer, the lesson is

To try and try again, and if and when you fail, have

A good laugh on yourself; laugh until you cry, for that

Is life – you’re bound to fail from time to time; Just sigh

And chuckle and tell yourself, “Oh well, I tried. I’ll try again.

And again, util I damned well succeed. I have planted

The seed of success, and life shall be mine!” Laugh

Like the good old wise owl; never give up! Hoo-hoo!

Ethereal Girl

ETHEREAL WOMAN

Have you seen the ethereal girl?

She was here, I swear she was here,

Then she was there, I swear she was there,

But when I looked back, she was no longer there…

Here or there, a concundrum, a confoundment,

Like a spiritual being, revealed in autumnal light,

Gone with the shadows, tauntingly beautiful,

Alluring in essence, beckoning yet not beckoning,

An apparent being, an ethereal mist, not real

But seeming real, leaving no scent, no sound,

No song to sing.

Frustrating me!

Oh, that empty feeling. Is she real?

Can you love a woman of mist?

Sometimes she Is there, sometimes not.

Sometimes the sweetness of life,

Sometimes angry, sometimes hot,

A mystical presence, a swirl of mist,

And she’s dancing to an unheard tune.

Now she’s a woman, now a child,

Laughter echoes and stirs the mist.

Ethereal woman, won’t you BE?

Don’t disappear like a puff of smoke,

Don’t swirl away the magic, stay with me…

HER SONG

Her song is a song of peace
And ginger bread and candy cane
And jelly beans and candy floss
Little kids and giant dreams
That grow up to be real

Her song is a song of praise
And flower gardens and pixy boys and girls
And fruit-filled trees and Tiger Lilies
Sweet Williams and a rose for love

Her song is a song of peace
And perfume and pretty girls
Polite wee boys and doting moms
Aunts, and uncles, who smell of snuff,
With soaking wet dogs, fluffy cats and stuff

So sing her song of lasting peace
Make jewellery gifts…and avarice release!
Peace will still our worried hearts
Pray that peace will never part

Sing her song of peace, of innocence
And strength, determination, will
To still the angry heart, the fighting words,
And spread the word, her song of peace

Her flowers paint their colors upon your eyes
Their intoxicating scent fills your heart with love
And her laughing eyes overflow your heart
With all the lyric sounds of her song of peace.

HAITI. Damn! Damn!

Notes:

Chaos erupts, fire in the streets,

Looting, pelting rocks, police batons.

War zone! The Hell that is Haiti

Descends into disgrace.

Earthquake-destroyed, poverty-stricken,

People take to the streets, hungry.

Haiti. Damn! Damn!

Desperate people there helping out

Flood our embassy for help to escape.

The doors are closed, the doors are locked.

No contact, no help, fear settled in.

O Canada. Where are you?

O Canada. Damn! Damn!

No news. No contact. Oh Canada.

Why have you abandoned us?

Finally, tenth day (?) with roads blocaded,

Fires set, not safe. Last hope,

Go Fund Me raises money for choppers,

Take some to airport to head back home.

O Canada. Damn! Damn!

People in Haiti say life is Hell.

Uprising creates end of the world world.

No prospects, no hope. Country is broke.

No work, no pay, not even welfare,

A country suffering, a stunted state.

Oh Haiti. Damn! Damn!

In Losing Her

Herb W Bryce1

IN LOSING HER

Inspired by Patient Wolf’s ‘card’ on fb:
“If you lose someone but find yourself, you have won.”

Image for I Found Me

H. W. Bryce

I searched and searched but I was standing right here,
Side by side with her throughout all the years.
But she was called and I was not, and at first I was just lost,
But now I see the shadow me, and now I have found me,
A brand new brand of me, and strong I stand.
And now I land on my own two strong feet.

Finding me was not an easy feat,
But now I have, and now I also have
A new life that is a treat.

Never will I forget her, not that I ever could,
To forget is not what I should, or would,
So in living life to honour her,
In losing her, I’ve found my self.

No longer umbilicalled, I stand alone,
And find I can! And stronger I now grow
With each step that I take.
Whaddya know? Life after that takes shape.
In losing her I found another me.*

It does get better.
