Blogging 101 — Day 13

Blogging 101—Day 13 – Advocacy

Hi,

I have chosen an alternate path for this assignment. Part of my stated mandate for my Author Page https://hwbrycewrites.com in connection with my upcoming book “Chasing a Butterfly,” poems about Alzheimer’s and Care Giving, was to make the transition from care giver to advocate. Because my 12 stages of care giving led me to this point.

I hope it is all right to mention this because that IS what my site is all about. ALSO, this is not the only area of interest that I hold.

I hope this doesn’t break the rules @michelleweber, this mentioning of my book project.

I just wasn’t keen on joining a regular challenge from the prompts. I have far too much ground to cover already, and I couldn’t find an appropriate group to join in the prompts. Sorry.

So instead, I searched for Alzheimer’s blogs. That led me to a string of sites, and I landed on one via the U.S. Alzheimer’s.org site, and through there to a sign up to help prevent Alzheimer’s. Stage 2 of my advocacy. Stage 1 is my local advocacy attempts.

Gee, already I’ve received a newsletter from Alzheimer’s Prevention. And I haven’t even posted yet. I hope to meet some blogging buddies through this source.

Note: Still fiddling with my theme. Hate all this fussing, and I can’t find a suitable theme that really works for me.

Anyway, happy blogging to you all. Cheers for now.

Greetings all. For Day 12, Blogging 101, I have several inspirations.

PLEASE NOTE: My site is under reconstruction. I want to get this in before we work on it again.

Blogging 101 – Day 12

Here are a few people who prompted memories with their different takes on the topic of the day.

She turned the tables. She pulled the wool over her husband’s eyes – to give him a treat.

I pulled the wool over my wife’s eyes once. To give her a treat.

Driving to school, listening to radio. We walked to school – four and a half miles there, felt like five on the way back. Or was that the other way around?

This is one of her sights. She wrote about her husband the drummer. I have a son drummer. Know what she means.

He was his own twin. A bit of a joker, and nicely done. Reminded me of a younger self.

I hope I have these all straight. Collectively, the gave me a lot of prods for a memoir.

One problem I had: Some people didn’t actually identify themselves on their sites. Not that I could find.
And, as others have mentioned: It’s a pain in the nether regions to have to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll…

So, here is my column for the day:

I fooled her and startled the star.

We were on holiday. We reached Ottawa. Loved the place. Favourite spot: the grand, unbelievable library, inside and out, of the Parliament buildings.

I spotted a poster for one of our all-time favourite performers. I snuck away and got two tickets. I secretly arranged for our travel partners to look after the kids. The were very young then. I got Ann ready. She bugged me about where I was taking her. I was stolid. I kept the secret.

At the theatre, I actually covered her eyes and walked her through a very curious, amazed and amused crowd. I signalled the hush-hush procedure so no one would speak the name.

I even got her into our seats – right up front.

She was aching, visibly, to know who the heck it was I’d taken her to see.

Finally the house lights went down.

And the star band leader, husband of the singing star, ambled onto the stage.

“Oh,” my wife squealed. “It’s John Dankworth.”

John stopped dead. He glanced out, toward us, it seemed. Then he carried on, picked up his saxophone, and began to play. What a thrill.

Then he played the real star onto the stage: Cleo Laine. CLEO LAINE. And JOHNNY DANKWORTH.

Only the two most brilliant artists in the world.

Needless to say, I was in Ann’s very good books for the rest of that amazing trip.

Still Catching up on Blogging 101

[three_fourth]

Blogging 1-1 — Day Whatever4 (cont’d) — Still Playing Catchup

For Day 9 — Something inspired me

This is part of the progression:

https://themomwhoruns.wordpress.com/2015/07/17/inspired-post-i-am-the-mom-who/

this a x-ref from

http://mummuddlingthrough.com/

which is x-ref from

So you see the linkage and friendships growing through the modern journal known as blogging.

This has inspired me to quote myself (don’t ask, I couldn’t explain the maze this thought took throughout my synapses and dendrites):

Who Will Visit?

By H. W. Bryce
copyrighthwbryce2013

Who will visit her if I’m not here?
Who will hold her quite so dear?
Who will comfort her in times of need?
Who can honour her with love’s own creed?

What girl guide or what boy scout
Will come to her with care devout?
If I’m not here will she not grieve?
Is there someone else here to believe?

I worry that she’ll live in fear
That no one else will shed a tear.
Who has time to care for others?
Who else cares like their own mothers?

Who will visit her if I’m not here?
Who will hold her quite so dear?

Welcome to My Blog

Hi. Come on in. This is my place for chat, a bit of entertainment, a bit of learning, some memoir snippets, and just general column writing.
So pour a coffee, have a seat, and welcome to my world.

My world may revolve around care giving and Alzheimer’s because I have a book of poetry to publish on the subject, but I also have books for younger readers, and I follow many other subjects.

I have a collections of aphorisms and stories from my travel days.

So come on over often. Coffee’s always fresh.[/one_fourth_last]

Catchup on Blogging 101 — Day Whatever4

My colorful life

IMG228This is Mr. Cougar.

Well Hi.

Re the lesson about pictures. This guy is my constant companion. He’s really my wife’s cat, but she’s in a home. I have a poem about him called Kitty Cat Was There. Re the lesson catchup: today I’m trying to insert a bit of color here. In my last post, the little picture floated. These are anchored. Whhooo-Poooh!

Re the lesson about adding color. I tried that, and all I got was thin strips along the very top and very bottom. Not helpful. Didn’t see any way to color the actual page.

Re the lesson to be social and all, I have clicked a bunch of follows. I posted four sites in a previous post. We’ve got some good people here.

Ann's Cover

For more color

I did this book for her while she’s still here. She loved it. She was a top sales person and president of the cadet league.

Can’t get more personal than this.

Blogging 101 – Day Whatever 2

Blogging 101 – Day Whatever 2

Serious bog down. Needed surgery. Critically weighted down. Liposuction. Removed pounds and pounds of surplus. Took all morning.

So now the computer is working a whole lot more leanly.

So now playing catch up:

Here are four sites I enjoyed.

https://thelearningcurvecumbria.wordpress.com/about-me/?contact-form-id=1&contact-form-sent=48&_wpnonce=9ba71ffa98#contact-form-1

https://20somethingexploring.wordpress.com/2015/07/14/blogging-blogging-blogging-my-7th-assignment/

I was obsessing about getting an image plug-in/widget, and with the oh-so-sluggish computer, I have failed. And, I got lost in the internet. So many WP sites… And so I lost “contact” with you fellow 101 bloggers. I’m such a disconnected widget.

So that’s all I got, for now. Just attempting to keep in touch.

Blogging 101 — Day Whatever

Hello Again,

How are you Mr./ Mrs./ Miss Again  😀

I’m still struggling here, still trying to get an image plug-in in. Today I got a tip about comments — someone wanted to. I’m flattered. So I think I can turn on comments per post. I’ll try it here. I thought, though, that there was a form you could load and it would always be there.

I still don’t like that people get sent to hwbrycethewriter and then have to click link to https://hwbrycewrites.com

So many things to learn, eh?

So many contacts. I’m trying to keep up. You just wait till the techy stuff all falls into place.

Thanks for listening. See ya soon.

And NOT by the way, thank you all for your encouraging comments. Hope you see this if I haven’t got back to you yet.

Well poop! I try to turn comments on but I can’t find an open comments box on the site.

Well, okay. There it is. What a messed up maze all this is. Everything is hidden, sayeth the newcomer. It’s not plug and play, it’s hide and seek! Ergh!
